Born on 1 March 1987 in Mumbai (Maharashtra). Graduated in literature from Mithibai College since it was well-known for its theater scene. His mother is a retired railway employee and father is an environment consultant and owns a company along with his younger brother. Chaitanya is the writer and director of Marathi movie “ Court Click to look into! >> Read More... ”. It qualified for India's official submission in the best foreign language film category at the 88th Academy Awards. It won more than 30 international awards. Tamhane was born in a middle-class Maharashtrian family, during his childhood he used to watch Marathi plays with his mother. When he was hardly 17-18 he worked as a daily soap writer "Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka" at Balaji Telefilms.

After Balaji, he worked with a company UTV Palador. Whatever money he earned he used the maximum amount on renting DVD's and used to watch movies. It is the secret behind his success. He explored more and more; may it be Bollywood or Hollywood. In 2005, His first documentary 'four- step plan' was funded by his friends and family. It was about the plagiarism prevailing in Indian cinema since 1940. He could not launch it officially due to lack of copy write though it was received well and he got huge media attention. When he was 21, he wrote and directed a play Grey elephants in Denmark.

Its screening was held at the Prithvi Theater and the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Mumbai. His debut film Court is a wonderful expression of Indian cinema. Court being a multilingual movie; took him about a year to write the script. The idea for Court came to Tamhane in 2011, during his visit to film festivals with his short film titled, Six Strands. Six Strands is the story of a lonely, mysterious woman running a tea plantation in a place named Khagambari, producing the world’s most elusive and expensive tea.

He was nominated for best screenwriter at the 9th Asian Film Awards and won the best director at the 16th Mumbai Film Festival awards, In 2014 Best Asian Feature Film for Court at Singapore International Film Festival, Silver Screen Awards. In 2015 he was awarded for Best Film Court at Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema. All his movies were unbeatable examples of his out of the box ideas whereas he also said that he would never make a typical Bollywood film.
