Bonium Thokchom

Bonium Thokchom is an Indian actor and singer who predominantly appears in Meitei films which are also known as Manipuri cinema. He hails from a small locality, perhaps village area. In his village, he used to perform on stage and anchor the musical shows.

Thus, he made his own level of acting suitable for courtyard plays and stage performances, and even in music videos, After showcasing all kinds of acting and singing talent in plays and videos, he shifted to Manipur silver screen. He was the second child in his family and grew up with five brothers and three sisters. His parents are Thokchom Loken and Thokchom Ongbi Bedamani.

He is a graduate in Arts. After studying in Jamini Devi Primary School, Meitei Mayek High School, Ch. Iboyaima, Higher Secondary School, CC Higher Secondary, Bonium went to DM College of Arts and completed his graduation. But then his inclination towards movie soared higher in his heart and he struggled to meet the film fraternity in Manipur. Being born in a poor family, he understood the dark side of his life.

But when he would feel broken in his heart, he would hum a song, and thus his singing abilities pushed his zeal to become a singer. His first tutorial in acting and singing was when he was an anchor for stage shows. Later, he joined ‘Imphal Jata Association,’ and acted in local plays like Brindavan Chatlamdai, Eigi Ishwar, and Wrong number Shumang Leelas. This pushed his talent from local stage to film industry.

But then also, luck didn't smile upon this young talent. He had to place himself as an anchor for 'Hello Hello' programme in ISTV Network. As a programme presenter, and while interviewing various films artists, Bonium became familiar with many film artists of Manipur.

Later, he acted in a Romi Meitei film 'Red Rose' in a small role. He used to wait outside studios for getting a chance but had no luck. Hence, he acted in some more films and music videos. Later on, lady luck smiled upon him and he got to play a protagonist role in a film titled 'Meerang Mahum,' which was directed by Ajit Ningthouja and produced by Olivia Shija. This put his feet in the film industry.

He is also the recipient of 'Best Actor' for the music video 'Ingao Ngaojabi' in All Manipur State Level. His films include 'Sathiba Danger' and 'Meerang Mahum' in (2014), 'Nungshit Mapi' and 'Nangna Nokpa Yengningi’ in (2015), 'Konggol' and 'Henna Nungaijei' in (2016) and 'Soinairaba Thamoi' and 'Thawanmichak Ama' in (2017).
