He was a senior leader in the Indian National Congress and the former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, India. His birth date is June 23, 1934, in a royal Rajput family to Late Raja Padam Singh and Late Rani Shanti Devi. He has a brother, Rajkumar Rajendra Singh. His place of birth is Sarahan in Punjab, British India (Now Himachal Pradesh, India). His nationality is Indian, and he belongs to the Hinduism religion. His zodiac sign is Cancer. He was the 122nd titular Raja of Bushahr from 1947 to 1971. He did his schooling at Colonel Brown Cambridge School, Dehradun, St. Edward’s School, Shimla, and Bishop Cotton School, Shimla.

Further, he went to St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, to pursue Honors in Bachelor of Arts. His hobbies include reading and listening to music. Virbhadra Singh married Rajkumari Ratna Kumari on May 28, 1954. They have four daughters, namely Jyotsna kumara, Anuradha Kumari (Died), Abhilasha Kumari (Judge), and Meenakshi Kumari. Ratna Kumari died on September 27, 1983. Virbhadra Singh married a second time to the princess of Keonthal and Politician Pratibha Singh on November 28, 1985. And they both had a son and a daughter. Their son Vikramaditya Singh is also a Politician. And daughter Aparajitha Singh married former Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh’s grandson. The first Prime Minister of India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, was the reason Virbhadra Singh entered politics.

He was elected to the Lok Sabha in the Indian general elections of 1962. Virbhadra Singh served as a Deputy Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation in the central cabinet from 1967 to 1977. He served as the Minister of State for Industries and Production from 1980 to 1983. Later, Virbhadra Singh was the Minister for Steel from May 2009 to January 2011. And from January 2011 to June 2012, he was the Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises. He served six terms as the fourth Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh for 21 years. Virbhadra Singh was elected nine times as a Member of the Legislative Assembly to the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha and five times to the Lok Sabha.

A biopic titled ‘Virbhadra Singh: Icon of the Era’ was released in 2015. Virbhadra Singh suffered a massive heart attack on July 5, 2021. He died due to Multi-organ failure on July 8, 2021, at Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital, Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. He served as an MLA from the Arki constituency at the time of his demise.
