Tejashree

Tejashree was born in the Maharashtra district of Mumbai as Sonali Jaikumar Khele. Arts became a passion of her as she acquired the taste for it from her father, Master Jaikumar Khele, who was a popular Kathak dancer. From her childhood, Tejashree was trained in Kathak and various other forms of dance, which instilled in her, a passion for exhibiting her talents. When performances at local venues failed to satisfy her thirst for expression, she thought of taking movies as a medium to portray her skills. ‘Tu Bal Brahmachari Men Hun Kanya Kunwari’ was her first film, and it was a Hindi film.

The movie was made in 2003, but it failed to give her the career boost that she had hoped for. Following her unsuccessful stint in Bollywood, Tejashree-who was Sonali at that time, tries her luck with the Tamil film industry. Strict as it is in tradition and various myths associated with the film industry, Sonali is asked to change her name to Tejashree to get a part in a movie titled ‘Ottran’- which was also released in 2003. The film was a box office success and Tejashree, who played a significant appearance on screen, is recognized by various filmmakers, and she gets plenty of new opportunities.

But to remain in the industry, she was typecasted as an item dancer since she was fine with having to exhibit her dancing skills. Owing to her outstanding performance in the movies in which she acted, she is removed from this generalization and is provided with various opportunities that her talent deserves. She has done over fifteen films in Tamil alone and almost the same number of films in other languages as well.
