Mohan Kanda

Mohan Kanda is an Indian civil servant who was born on September 4, 1945. He is a 1968 batch Indian Administrative Service officer. In 2005, he stepped down as Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh. He is a member of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Mr. Bheema Shankaram Kanda, a High Court judge, and Mrs. Papayamma, a notable social reformer, raised him in a Telugu Brahmin household. He attended All Saints High School in Hyderabad and received his bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics from Osmania University's Nizam College. His thesis earned him a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Osmania University. Sitaram Yechury, a politburo member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), is his nephew. As a child actor, he appeared in a few Telugu films under the stage name "Master Mohan.” “Pelli Chesi Choodu,” a comedy film directed by L. V. Prasad and released in 1952, is one of them. He played in the music drama “Amma Noppule Ammamma Noppule”.

Mohan Kanda began his career as an officer at the State Bank of India. After becoming an IAS officer, he started serving for the Government of Andhra Pradesh. He was also Secretary of the Indian Government's Ministry of Agriculture and Vice Chairman of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA). He started his career as a Secretary in the Union Ministry of Agriculture before becoming Chief Secretary in Chandrababu Naidu's government and then Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy's. He is a member of the Planning Commission's Agriculture and Allied Sectors Steering Committee to draft the 12th Five-Year Plan (2012–17).
