Madala Rangarao was an actor and producer in the Telugu film industry. He is known as Red Star by his audience. He was associated with the Communist Party of India and Prajanatya Mandali. He was born in Mynampadu of Prakasam district. His debut film was Chairman Chalamayya in 1974.

This satirical movie was directed by Ramineedu Gutha. He started his own banner named Navrataram Pictures. He has produced and acted in many movies like Yuvatharam Kadilindi, Mahaprasthanam, Praja Shakti, Veera Bhadrudu and so on. One such movie named Erra Mallelu was released in 1981. This movie is the debut of Rangarao’s son Madala Ravi.

His films were mostly about social issues and the dark side of politics. He was famous for producing such types of films. He died on 27 May 2018 in Star Hospital Hyderabad, Telangana due to a heart attack.

He has won the Golden Nandi in the year 1980 for the film Yuvataram Kadilindi by the state government of Andhra Pradesh. He has also directed movies under his own banner. He has acted in more than 60 films and produced 12 films. When he died many big stars of the south film industry came to give homage to him and expressed their views about him.
