Crime and fight for justice has been the most exploited theme in Bollywood film industry, but still there have been only some movies which showed the prison world rather than giving us a trip of some imaginary unrealistic world. Presenting the life of a prisoner is said to be a very hard role to play on the silver screen, but there were some mind blowing performances by the actors that made it seem like a piece of a cake. So presenting to you top 10 of such performances.

1. Saza-E-Kala Pani (1996)

Starring 'Mohanlal' and Prabhu Ganesan this Priyadarshan directed film is about the jail in Port Blair, and the inhuman treatment given to the prisoners in British India.

2. Kala Pani (1958 film)

Starring Dev Anand, produced by Dev Anand and directed by Raj Khosla the film is an adaptation of A.J. Cronin's 1953 novel, Beyond This Place. It shows the struggle of a man to find his dad and set him free from prison.

3. Jail Yatra (1981)

This film stars Ashok Kumar, Vinod Khanna and Reena Roy. It is a story about a notorious guy famous for cons and careless attitude because of which he has an in and out relationship with prison. One day he gets into trouble by dealing with a notorious gangster who has now made up his mind to kill him, and now the hero has to find a way to get out of this mess without being arrested.

4. Deewaar - Let's Bring Our Heroes Home (2004)

Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, it is a war film directed by Milan Luthria. It is about the Indian Army officers being imprisoned during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, and their several attempts to escape and return to their home land.

5. 'Bandini' (1963)

Starring 'Nutan', Ashok Kumar and Dharmendra, this film is set in a time where British government was still in power. This movie was one of the first female centric movies of Bollywood. In it, a jailor falls in love with a female prisoner, who for the first time reveals her side of story and the reason she is in prison.

6. Do Aankhen Barah Haath (1957)

V. Shantaram The film portrays a young jail warden, who takes responsibility of rehabilitating six nefarious prisoners and giving them a new life opportunity and motive.

7. Sarkar (2005)

Starring Abhitabh Bachchan and Abhishek bachchan this film is based on politics and crime. Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, this movie revolves around a very powerful politician. It shows his wit and deranged mentality to remain at the throne.

8. Don 2 (2011)

It is a sequence of Don, in which Don is shown surrendering to police, being sentenced to death and sent to prison. Don plans to free a well skilled old rival and offer a partnership.They escape prison and plan a big robbery.

9. Gupt: The Hidden Truth (1997)

This films has Bobby Deol, Kajol and Manisha Koirala playing the lead roles. Falsely accused for his own father’s death, the hero decides to break out of prison to clear his name and find the killer.

10. Jail (2009)

The movie stars Manoj Bajpayee, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Atul Kulkarni. A common man is convicted for a crime he didn’t commit and is sent to jail. He is heartbroken and terrified. All the same he learns to adapt to the situation of the brutal jail to survive.
