1. Mahal

2. Veerana

Directed by the Ramsay brothers, Veerana is a movie that belongs to the horror- mystery genre. It is set in a deserted forest, and the narration shows a young girl who is possessed by a spirit. Eventually, she seduces men as a grown up woman, embarking on a killing spree as a result of being caught in the world of dark magic.

3. Raat

This Ram Gopal Verma directed supernatural flick has gained a classic cult status over the years. A family shifts into a new locality and occupy a house which had been haunted. The situation becomes tense when the protagonist is possessed, and people die mysteriously. The film captures the scientific and the supernatural sides of the arguments well.

4. Raaz

The first movie in the hit- horror film series, Raaz (2002), centres around the lives of a couple who is the target of a vengeful ghost. Sanjana is shown racing against the time to save her marriage along with the life of her husband, Aditya, from the spirit of his ex-lover, Malini.

5. Bhoot

This period horror-drama sees an inter-religion couple living together against the wishes of their family. The husband is an architect, who is assigned the job of renovating an old haveli into a hotel unaware of the ghost that haunts it and its agenda to possess his wife.

8. Phoonk

This blockbuster is yet another movie directed by RGV. The film starts with the family of an atheist engineer living in Mumbai who observes strange happenings in their house following a fall-out with business colleagues. He is forced to confront his views about science and supernatural when his daughter gets possessed.

9. Ragini MMS

Touted to have been based on a real story, a couple, Ragini and Uday had planned a rejuvenating weekend at a secluded house, with no knowledge of the dark presence that haunted it. Their date goes horribly wrong, as their chased and hunted by the spirit of the previous house owner.

10. Ek Thi Dayan

Adapted from the short story Mobius Trips, Ek Thi Dayan is a multi-star cast ghost story. Emran Hashmi is a famed magician, who after being regularly troubled by hallucinations visits a psychiatrist, where a dark past gets revealed. The rest of the movie follows his journey to uncover the truth and fight the mysterious forces.
