The Central Board of Secondary Education has plans to install lockers for the students in the schools. It says that the students need not carry the books to home and this would lessen the weight of their school bags. Carrying heavy books have become a health issue, now.
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), has nearly 18,000 schools affiliated to it. A senior official of the CBSE board states that the students need not carry the books that are not required for the day. So, they could keep it in the lockers provided to them. It is a one-time investment and the schools will not affect with this new scheme, says the official. The Board has also set up a special committee to review the rules of the affiliation. In addition to the locker systems, the CBSE has an idea to bring out the NCERT books as two volumes to ease up carrying.
