Film Exhibitors Have Faith That There Would Be Tax Exemption

The State Government recently made a decision to impose local body tax on movies. This has taken the Kollywood circles by shock. As per the State Government, the tax planned is 10 percent for Tamil movies. Also, it is 20 percent for other language movies. The Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council has arrived at a decision that no new movies with release during this week. This has brought the industry to a grinding halt and there is difficulty screening new movies. A decision is anticipated to arrive in a few days.

There will be a meeting between the concerned organizations and issues will be discussed during the event. He had released an audio recording in which he reprimanded the leading stars of the industry for not coming to the support. He stressed that they should come in support rather than going for unnecessary talk. He spoke to reporters recently and said that he is hopeful of the issue of local tax getting solved within a short span of time. He said that the industry cannot face the difficulty. When other language industries are not paying tax, he raised a question as to why Tamil movie industry has to suffer.
