Mersal is movie starring Ilayathalapathi Vijay. There has been much talk about the movie. But, the movie is facing a new hurdle, and this has proved to be a disappointment for Vijay fans. As a matter of fact, the State Government has made announcement of local body tax, which caused a strike among the multiplexes. In a negative development, the Tamil Nadu Producers’ Council has made announcement that movies would not hit screens and this is in protest against the dual taxation. Of late, Chennai Corporation went for a local body tax of 10 percent on Tamil movies and 20 percent on non Tamil movies.
There is also a 28 percent of GST which was implemented from September 27th. This has irked the owners of the multiplexes and this could lead to a double taxation on the industry. As a matter of fact, the industry is bothered by high tax rate and piracy problems. As a matter of fact, these issues have not been solved yet. The release of new movies has been stalled. This in turn affects the releases on Diwali. In fact, releases on Diwali are important for the Tamil movie industry. There is a lingering question as to whether the issues would be solve before Diwali. One has to wait and see whether fans could enjoy Vijay Starrer Mersal for the Diwali.
