On 22nd May 2018, the Thoothukudi people, who were marching towards the collectorate to give the petition to take immediate action with regards to the Sterlite factory, were attacked by the police, following the stone pelts. It was said that as the police couldn’t manage the crowd, they started firing against the people. Totally 13 people were dead in two days. Till date, none revealed, who gave the order to use the weapons against the public. Although a lot of political parties and film industry people condemned the attack by the police, none from the government spoke about this issue but said that the firing was unavoidable. This irked not only the Thoothukudi people but the entire state. Everyone started criticizing that the government runs for the corporate and not for the public. Following this, “
Edappadi K Palaniswami
” announced the compensation for the people, who lost their lives in the gunshot. Today, the deputy CM, “
O Panneerselvam
” started his journey to Thoothukudi to visit the victims and it is noted that only yesterday the curfew was lifted.
