Following the violence in the silent protest that was held on 22nd May against the Sterlite factory, the internet services in Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts were banned. Following the opposition, the ban was lifted for Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts, but Thoothukudi was denied of the internet services. As there are chances of spreading fake news and false acquisitions, the internet services were banned, said the government sources. The city that was imposed with section 144 under IPC has got relieved from today and the curfew is lifted. From today, there is no internet ban too. Normalcy is expected in the city, soon. A huge protest was organized against the Sterlite. On the 100th day of the protest, some unwanted incidents happened and the police fired the protesters and 13 were killed. The cases regarding this have been going on at Madurai High Court.
