Thompson is an actress, writer, and a comedian in Britain. She is famous for the roles of reticent women. She was born to Eric Thompson, an English actor and Phyllida Law, a Scottish actress in London. She completed her education at the Newnham College in the University of Cambridge. She appeared in many comedy programs initially and came in two series of BBC TV in the year 1987 namely Fortunes of War, and Tutti Frutti for which she won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress. Her first role in films was in the year 1989 in the movie named The Tall Guy. She collaborated frequently with Kenneth Branagh, her husband, director, and actor. The couple became famous in the media and acted in many films together like Dead Again in the year 1991, and in the film named Much Ado About Nothing in the year 1993. She was the script writer and star of the film name Sense and Sensibility in the year 1995. She contributed a lot to the film industry by acting in the films and TV series like Harry Potter, Love Actually, Wit, Angels in America, Stranger than Fiction, Nanny McPhee, Last Chance Harvey, Brave, and Men in Black 3 from 2001 to 2012. During 2013, she played a role in the film named Saving Mr. Banks for which she won many award nominations. She is now the wife of the actor Greg Wise. She lives in London along with her husband, an adopted son and her daughter. Her first role in her acting profession was the Not the Nine O'Clock News' stage version in the year 1982. She then acted in the comedy series of ITV named There's Nothing To Worry About in the same year.
