Asif Kapadia is a filmmaker in Britain. He was born in a Muslim British Indian family in London city of United Kingdom. He completed his schooling in the year 1988 from Homerton House Secondary School. He, later on, attended Newport Film School i.e. the University of Wales in the year 1992 and then went on to complete his bachelor’s degree Photographic Arts, TV, and Film from the University of Westminster in the year 1994. He achieved master’s degree in television and film direction from Royal College of Arts in the year 1997. At the college, he directed his graduation venture titled The Sheep Thief, which was a documentary which lasted for 24 minutes. Asif made the debut of his career in the year 2001 after graduating from Royal College of Arts with the movie The Warrior starring Irrfan Khan. The movie shooting was completed in the Himalayas and the Rajasthan’s deserts. The movie was well accepted by the audience and got nominated for the three BAFTA Awards of which it ended up winning two of them. The film also won the Dinard Film Festival’s Grand Prix, the Sutherland Award at the United Kingdom’s largest public entertainment event London Film Festival, and the Douglas Hickox Award for Best Debut Film and the Evening Standard British Film Award which is judged by the UK’s top critics’ panel for the Most Promising Newcomer.
