Rob Lowe is a renowned film and television actor. He was born as Robert Hepler ‘Rob’ Lowe on March 17, 1964 at Charlottesville in Virginia to Barbara Lynn and Charles Davis Lowe. His parents had a divorce when he was young. Due to a virus while he was still a baby, his right ear is deaf. He was baptized in a Episcopal church. Rob came from an English, Irish, Welsch and Scottish lineage and brought up in a conventional Midwestern backdrop in Ohio. From there, he studied at Oakwood Junior High School before shifting to Point Dume in Malibu, California. Rob also studied at Santa Monica High School.


One of his primal roles is the 1983 television film, Thursday’s Child where he played as Sam Alden where he won his very first nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or Television Film at the Golden Globe Award. He was debuted in the big screen which also happens to be his breakthrough came from the 1983 drama film, The Outsiders. He played as Sodapop ‘Soda’ Curtis together with Emilio Estevez and C. Thomas Howell. He acted once again with Emilio Estevez in the coming-of-age film, St. Elmo’s Fire in 1985. He was starred as Danny in the romantic film, About Last Night opposite with Demi Moore. In 1987, he bagged the role of Rory, a 21-year old man with disability in the drama film, Square Dance.


Rob is also popular for his role as Sam Seaborn in the serial political drama series, The West Wing from which he earned nominations at the Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Drama series. The actor bagged the role due to his passion for politics and his enduring relationship with his co-star, Martin Sheen, the father of Emilio Estevez. When the show started, he was considered as the main lead; however, the other casts were all big personalities so he was no longer the main lead. Later, he and the creator of the series, found themselves in an offbeat as the network started to interfere with the show and demand changes on his character. Later on, he left the series and returned in the final episodes of the show. He then played as John ‘Jack’ Turner in the 2003 television series, The Lyon’s Den, but the series failed to gain good ratings so after six aired episodes, the show was cancelled. Rob tried again in the 2004 drama series, Dr. Vegas but shortly after, the show was also cancelled. In 2005, Rob was starred in A Few Good Men as Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee. He essayed the role of Dr. Derek Shepherd in the medical drama series, Grey’s Anatomy.


Even if he has two canceled television series and failed TV film like the Perfect Strangers, he still found success in the miniseries field. He appeared in the television miniseries, The Stand, which is based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name. In 2004, he was also starred as Ben Mears in the remake of the miniseries, Salem’s Lot. It became the highest-rated and highest rating TNT show at that time. In 2005, he was featured as Jack in Beach Girls on Lifetime. The show was considered as the highest rating show for a movie premiere in the history of Lifetime network. In 2006, he acted as a movie agent in the independent comedy-drama film, Thank You for Smoking. He has filmed TNT’s The Perfect Day in 2006 and took his pay cut to help support the hurricane victims in New Orleans. In 2007, he was starred in the television film, Stir of Echoes: The Homecoming; a sequel to the 1999’s Stir of Echoes. He played as Robert McCallister for a guest run in the drama series, Brothers & Sisters and later, he announced that he will return to the second season of the show. He continued his role in the series from 2009-2010.


Rob also a guest host in an episode of the 3rd series of the comedy-variety show, The Sunday Night Project. He also appeared in an advertisement of ‘Visit California’ together with other personalities like Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. He has done a supporting role as Brad Kessler in the romantic-comedy film, The Invention of Lying which stars Ricky Gervais and Jennifer Garner. He played the main lead in Too Late to Say Goodbye. Rob was also part of the Brat Packers’ Brat Pack: Where Are They Now? He also made a guest appearance in the late-night talk show, The tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. He is also set to co-produce with 44 Blue Productions in the series, Potomac Fever which portrays the life of the adults who lives in Washington, D.C. He become a regular on NBC’s comedy series, Parks and Recreation in 2010. Later, he was a guest-star in the comedy drama series, Californication.


This year, he will star in the Pocket Listing and he will also star as Ben Bertrahm in the pilot of The Pro. He also narrated the National Geographic’s ‘The 90’s: The Last Great Decade?’ broadcasted last July.


Rob also wrote the book, ‘Stories I Only Tell My Friends and in 2014, he wrote his 2nd book entitled, Love Life. He met the actress, Melissa Gilbert when he was just 14 on CBS studio. At 17, when the two met again, they started dating. While filming the comedy drama film, The Hotel New Hampshire in 1984, he had an affair with German actress, Nastassja Kinski. Rob and Melissa parted ways when he started to date Princess Stephanie of Monaco. But when their relationship ends, Melissa and Rob reconciled, became engaged and will supposedly get married in 1987. But when Melissa told him that she was pregnant, they broke up for good. Melissa stated that she got miscarried after several days. He got married to Sheryl Berkoff in 1991 and they have two sons namely, Matthew Edward and John Owen Lowe.
