Plot

The movie 695 is a documentary-style depiction of the nearly 500 years of struggle of the Hindus to regain the land, which holds great religious importance and is the birthplace of Lord Ram, a Hindu deity. The film unfolds various incidents that occurred over time, and with the help of these incidents, it showcases the unwavering devotion of the Hindu community. What was the prominent conflict between Hindu and Muslim communities regarding the concerning land? What steps were taken by both communities to secure their religious beliefs? The movie tries to answer these questions.

Star Performances

Casting in this film can’t be better than what it is. Watching Arun Govil as Guru Raghav Das can convince anyone of his acting range. Ashok Samarth portrayed Raghu Nandan, the disciple of Guruji, in this film. His acting on screen is pure bliss.  All the actors in this movie performed their roles with sheer conviction and dedication, which is mesmerizing to watch. Manoj Joshi’s character of a lawyer in the film is one of the well-played characters of the movie. The performances of Dheeraj Singh Gajendra Chauhan, Govind Namdeo, and Mukesh Tiwari are also the film’s highlights. The rest of the cast did a fine job in the movie.

Analysis

The movie ‘695’ is the story about the historic significance of the struggles of the Hindu community, who fought for the re-establishment of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The title is an abbreviation of the three significant dates. 6 December 1992, the day on which Babri masjid was demolished during a political rally and it triggered riots all over the Indian subcontinent. On 9 November 2019 Supreme Court of India passed the order in favour of the Hindus, and on 5 August 2020, the Ram Mandir finally started to build. The screenplay and dialogues used in this film are the worst part of this movie. They downdrag the cinematic significance of the film. Cinematography is passable. The animations and VFX used in this movie are below average. The beginning of this film tells us, through animation, that it is based on true events, but there are some fictional elements in the movie. However, the depiction of the Hindus in the movie felt exaggerated. It failed to convince the audience of the community’s motive behind the establishment of the Ram temple. The story of this film felt repetitive, focusing primarily on the hardships faced by the Hindus. It even fails to present the bureaucratic and political aspects of the concerning issue. The performances of the actors make this movie worth watching once. The casting of this movie is perfect. All of actors who performed in this film, helped in making this movie believable. The music used in this film was more influential in evoking emotions than the screenplay. This movie can be considered a failed attempt by director Yogesh Bhardwaj to depict the struggles and historical events relating to the Ram Mandir.

What’s There?

• Brilliant performances

• Most genuine courtroom drama

• Great music

What’s Not There?

• Poor writing and scripting

• Lack of objectivity

• Poor animations and VFX

• Boring second half

Verdict

This movie tries to do a lot in the limited time frame due to which, it fails to leave behind  any significant impact on the audience. If you want to watch a film about Ram Janambhoomi and the struggle behind the newly made Ram temple in Ayodhya, you can watch this film.
