Plot

A young boy is sent to an army hostel. However, he cannot get over the trauma of his household. He finds solace in boxing. Will this new found love heal his wounds?

Star Performances

Akash Pratap Singh has done a great job as both the lead writer and the actor. For all the flaws of this movie, at least he showed some honesty in his efforts.

The supporting cast of this movie have done equal justice with their roles. Special mention to Ashwath Bhatt for his brilliant performance as the cruel, heartless father.

Analysis

Sports drama are not anything new to Indian cinema. However, there are very few films that focus on a more sensitive issue, with sports as a backdrop. Is ‘Main Ladega’ a welcome step in the right direction?

The movie has been written by Akash Pratap Singh, who is also the lead actor of this movie. He portrays the role of a young student, who is emotionally disturbed by the endless quarrels in his home, and the severe discrimination that his mother faces everyday. He thinks that boxing is perhaps a solution to most of his problems, if not all.

For a movie with no big stars, the visuals are surprisingly good. The makers have done a decent job in capturing the sporting sequences. Unlike films like ‘ Mukkabaaz Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ and ‘Rashmi Rocket’, the focus on social issues doesn’t destroy the overall experience.

Akash Pratap Singh has portrayed the angst of a teenager almost perfectly. He is supported strongly by Gandharv Dewan, who plays his boxing coach, and Ashwath Bhatt, who plays the role of an insensitive man who happens to be his father. The rest of the actors have done a decent job, if not outstanding.

The only thing that prevents the film from becoming a must watch is the terrible editing. There are many sequences that should have been cut out from the film. The movie is almost 2 and a half hours long, but going by the narrative, the pace of the movie is excessively overstretched.

Verdict

‘Main Ladega’ is a surprise package that packs a punch. The performances are great, and so is the action in this movie. If only the editing of this movie was equally good. If you a sports lover, you can give this one a try!
