Plot

Ameena is a movie that makes us question the reality of our society through its protagonist. The film revolves around the journey of Meena, a modern girl with forward thoughts. She leads an independent life and is an artistic soul. She performs in theatre professionally. One fine day she has to enact a play named Yahaan Amina Bikti Hai. The play is about Amina, a young girl who was initially a victim of human trafficking and rape.

In the play, instead of seeking justice, Amina is devastated and commits suicide. As Meena leaves the theatre after this play, she too becomes a victim of rape. Now, Meena's choice is simple: to fight for herself or resign to her faith just like Amina did. The movie focuses on the plight of young women and the emotional turmoil they face in society.

Will Meena survive all this?

Watch this emotional thriller to find out.

Star Performances

Rekha Rana, as Meena in Ameena, does a commendable job. The character was emotionally complex and had various intricate details. All of these traits were portrayed flawlessly by Rekha. Her acting makes the viewers resonate with the character of Meena. Also, Ananth Madhavan’s character is a fresh change and is commendable. He has been in the industry for years, and it is reflected in the movie. Ananth’s character highlights the emotional aspect of Meena’s character.

Analysis

Ameena is a movie that attempts to throw light on the plight of abuse survivors through its unique screenplay. The concept is fresh for the viewers, but the execution has major room for improvement. The movie takes on a very serious issue and has failed to deliver a strong message through the storyline.

The film focuses on two stories of two different women with striking similarities. It falters mainly when executing both stories parallelly. Sometimes, viewers get confused by the poor narration and blatant dialogue delivery. Also, the plot development isn’t visible on the screen, just one of the many reasons this movie disappoints the masses. Overall, the piece promised a great socially revoking experience but failed in execution.

What’s There?

  • The protagonist diligently portrays the roles of Ameena and Amina.
  • Attempts to bring forward a strong message through its execution.

What’s not There?

  • The storyline lacks a clear structure.
  • Fails to keep the audience intrigued.

Verdict

Ameena is a movie that embarks on a journey to revolutionize the cinematic industry but gets lost in execution. The film promises to deliver a social message but has failed. It can be watched once for the sake of intrigue.
