Plot: Vaastu Prakaara Click to look into! >> Read More... deals with the way Indian families still believe in astrology and superstition and how even in the modern day, these things over-rule reason and logic. The film deals with a couple settled in Switzerland, Vandana and Ananthakrishna. Problems start between the two when Vandana starts to doubt her husband of having an affair. She calls in her lawyer Nirmala to handle the case. Caught in the conflict, the daughter Ritu decides to take the help of Kubera and his uncle Jagdish who tell her that the matter will be over by Vaastu Shastra. Kubera was the son of a Vaastu practitioner in India, but his father drives him out when he comes to know about his hatred for Vaastu Shastra.

Kubera goes to his uncle in Switzerland, and the two decide to take up Vaastu Shastra as a profession. Their first client turns out to be the daughter of the aristocratic couple Ritu. In the meantime, Ritu and Kubera fall for one another. The only difficulty to the path of Kubera and his uncle is the lawyer Nirmala. The rest is the suspense of the film. Does Vaastu Shastra at last solve the problem of the couple? What is the result at the end? All these questions have answers in the remaining of the film.

Analysis: The story deals with a conflict. To a large extent, it is a struggle between superstition and reason. Yograj Bhat as the director tries not to indulge with the conflict too much and correctly keeps it as the background of the film. However, one expects more from him as far as execution is concerned. The story is good, but it is too prolonged and the narration is poor. Santosh Rai Pathaje does superb cinematography. He uses the stunning Swiss locales very skillfully to make the film attractive.

Also, he pays a lot of attention to detail. V Harikrishna’s music is also appreciable and suits the scenes very well. However, apart from the good storyline, the film does not work too well. Especially the direction by Bhat is below expectations. The film could do better if the execution was more carefull. However, the dialogues are well written. Delivery by most of the actors also works fine. The film lacks a certain magic that Yograj Bhat’s movies are bound to have.

Star Performances: Jaggesh as Kubera’s uncle Jagadish steals the show. His performance is the best among all the actors. With his witty comments and actions and impeccable dialogue delivery, nobody can compete with him on the screen. What’s there? The story is different and good. Bhat has intelligently avoided pushing the conflict too far in the film. The performance by the actors is also pretty good. Santosh Rai Pathaje’s stunning cinematography including the locales of Switzerland is a treat to the eye.

What’s not there? Though the story is good, a proper execution would make it even better to watch. Also, the film does not have anything great for the audience especially when it is so lengthy.

Verdict: Watch the movie for the new story and also for the Swiss locales. Apart from this, there is nothing much to experience. There is no harm in either watching it for once or even giving it a miss.
