Plot

The movie Maaveeran centers on the life of a comic artist, Satya, who has been curating comic strips under the name Maveeran, depicting a strong and willful hero, for a magazine named Dhina Thee. Satya is shown as a shy, cowardly man who would rather suffer than speak up. This habit of his lands him in trouble when he lets a co-worker take credit for Maaveeran’s success. Always, others have to stand for Sathya, be it his widowed mother or Nila. The family is forced to shift from slums to a high-rise apartment, in the promise of better prospects by the government. But it turns out to be a façade and again due to Sathya’s ignorance, his mother and Rajni(his sister) are the ones to suffer. Due to his condition, Sathya tries to commit suicide and as a result, suffers chronic injuries but is alive. Also, when he comes out of the hospital, there is a voice guiding him to take brave actions. Under the influence of this voice, Sathya takes a stand not only for himself but for others too. The movie then captures his journey as he becomes a rebel and the threats that follow.

Star Performances

Sivakarthikeyan, aka Sathya, is phenomenal in his role. He depicts the character of a troubled and talented comic artist quite accurately. Sathya’s entire transition, from being a vulnerable guy to a strong force of action couldn’t be portrayed better. The dialogue delivery and expressions of Sivakarthikeyan just add to the depth of character. His character is most appreciated, and rightly so.

Analysis

Maaveeran is a testimony to the statement that Tamil cinema is exceptional. Madone Ashwin, with his brilliant screenplay, unfolds the story in flawless movement. The concept it explores was quite untouched by other films, but the execution is done in a manner that doesn’t bore the viewers. Also, it can be regarded as a socially impactful movie since it takes a dig into government and its gruesome practices. Every tiny element such as character development, conflict resolution, and engaging screenplay, is taken care of.

The storyline follows a structured flow and engages the viewers with its script. Also, the comical tinge of Yogi Babu adds needed humor to the film. Also, the love interest of the protagonist not only brings out a romantic aspect but also contributes to the central theme of Maaveeran. Simply put, this film is a masterpiece.
