Plot

Veera Babu Bio coming soon... >> Read More... is assigned to Lambasingi, a quaint region for his first posting. He is attracted to Haritha, who is the apple of the eye for many. However, when Naxalites attack the local MLA, Veera Babu discovers something startling. Will he be able to find out the truth behind Haritha?

Analysis

Naxalism has been a widely discussed topic in Indian cinema. An overwhelmingly large chunk of them have been supportive of their cause, whether directly or indirectly. So where does ‘Lambasingi’ stand?

The film is about a rookie cop, who is attracted to a girl with a dark past. How he encounters the Naxals, and how he overcomes the challenges form the base of the plot. The film is undoubtedly an emotional take on a sensitive issue, and in some ways, is loosely inspired by ‘Yahaan’, an old Hindi film that had an identical theme, though the film was set in Kashmir.

However, the concept was ruined at the platform of execution. For all the brilliance, Naveen Gandhi simply failed to create an engaging, powerful story, that explores both sides of the conflict without malice. The movie claims to be a ‘pure love story’, but is utterly confused in terms of the narrative. The film is not very long, but the way the story progresses does test the patience of the viewers.

Undoubtedly the film has a noble purpose. But that is simply not visible when it comes to the final product. The fact that Naveen is both the writer and the director of the film doesn’t help it, for he excels in none of the departments assigned. The makers had a good opportunity to create a visual delight by exploring the rural landscape of Andhra Pradesh. However, they messed it up.

The only redeemable quality of this film is the performance of the lead actors. Despite the flaws, Bharath Raj and Divi do their best in their respective roles, trying their best to make up for the messed-up narrative. Apart from them, the musical composition also packs a punch

Verdict

‘Lambasingi’ is a golden opportunity wasted. The screenplay had promised on paper. However, the execution was far from the same. The only good things worth remembering about this film are the performances of the lead and the musical score.
