Plot

Manohar is an artist, who has no big dreams in life. However, his life is shattered when the bride elopes on the day of the marriage, fearing a dreadful life with the latter. Manohar decides to set things up and enrolls for training in printing. However, is he ready to move on?

Star Performances

The only two good things about this film are the music and the acting. The musical score by Sanjeev and the background score add to the simplistic charm of this film.

The acting by the movie cast is also more than just decent. Abhinav Gomatam has come out of his comfort zone to play a complex character like this. If not for the narrative, he carried the film on his shoulders. Vaishali Raj also does a brilliant job in her portrayal of an instructor.

Analysis

What happens if everything you hold dear is snatched away from you? How would you react when your near and dear ones behave as if you never existed? Would you grumble about it, or make a fresh start?

‘Masthu Shades Unnai Ra’ is a dramedy that focuses on the other perspective. It’s very rare for a film to talk about broken men. Either such depictions are caricaturish or are just forgettable. However, with ‘Masthu Shades Unnai Ra’, there is a sincere attempt at depicting how unskilled men or school dropouts try to make the most of their resources.

The intent is quite noble, and it shows in many instances. The visuals are great, and the acting performances only add to the simplistic charm of the narrative. Abhinav Gomatam as Manohar, and Vaishali Raj as Uma almost complement each other in terms of acting, and make the best of whatever they are offered.

However, the emotional aspects of this film are slightly below par. The film could have been something along the lines of ‘Colour Photo’. However, the writers chose an easier route, and the film looked incomplete in terms of emotional engagement

Verdict

‘Masthu Shades Unnai Ra’ is a film that has a different approach. The vision of the filmmaker was noble, and the acting performances also complimented it. If only the screenplay was as emotionally taut. You can watch it as a one-time watch.
