Plot

Paagal is a story about a guy who is always searching for love. He was very young when his loving mother passed away because of cancer. To fill that void, he starts searching for a person to love and who will, in return, love him. He goes around saying “I love you” to every random girl, but they either reject him, or use him. He becomes heartbroken. Finally, he gives up and goes to a rooftop to end his life. A girl then screams that she loves him to save his life. When he asks her why she can’t be with him she tells him that her marriage is already fixed and can’t break her father’s trust, who adopted her when she was very young. When her father finds out about them, he plans an accident and kills his own daughter. Prem then plans an act of revenge against him, and the whole story unfolds.

Star Performance

Vishwak Sen is an incredible actor, but sometimes he just overdoes it. The comedy aspect didn’t work in his favor. The scenes that should be fun just turned annoying.   Nivetha Pethuraj was fantastic, and Bhumika Chawla was convincing as a mother.

Analysis

The first half of the movie has nothing. The movie starts from the second half, which is also plain and pathetic. The movie has many objectionable things like body-shaming women, and racism against women. We live in the 21^st century, and body-shaming and racism against women are not something to laugh about. You don’t know what a woman goes through because of all this, and these directors go around showing this in a movie as if it is okay, which makes things worse. This literally makes me question the mentality of the director and what was he even thinking about adding those scenes in a movie that hundreds of people are going to watch.

The story has nothing concrete. The main lead says “I love you” to anybody, like love itself has no definition. He falls in love with every random girl as if it’s a joke. And what the guy felt was not love, it was obsession and attraction and nothing more. He just gaslights the girl. Don’t give it the name of love. The movie lacks logic. While I know some movies are meant to be just enjoyed, this one has not even one rational thought throughout the duration of the movie.

Verdict

Don’t watch this. You’ll literally go crazy watching this. The movie has nothing, but some twisted sense of superiority, and the director lives under a rock because he doesn’t know the things, he is showing in the movie affect people in more than one way.
