Plot

Maya was searching for a job in Oregon’s Portland. She decided to combine her job search and her love’s 5th anniversary. So, Maya and Ryan, her boyfriend, are on a road trip. They lost their way and landed in Venus, a small town. They had dinner there and started their journey. But, their car breaks down and a mechanic in the town agrees to set it right, but the next day. Now, they are forced to stay that night at an Airbnb. At night, a girl knocked on their door and asked for Tamara, to which Maya and Ryan replied, No. Ryan checked and found that he had missed his inhaler, and after getting a bike, he went out to get the inhaler in their car, which was left with the mechanic. After he left the place, Maya started playing piano, and soon, there was a power cut, which led to some scary incidents. Soon, Ryan returned and comforted her. But what they experienced was horrifying. What happened next? The rest of the film showcases these.

Star Performance

Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez played their part really well. But, what we witnessed is that they lacked on-screen chemistry.

Analysis

The script and the characters are not developed well. The lead stars’ characters are stereotypical. Though their performances were good, the lacklustre writing made the audience lose their movie-watching interest. Most of the horror scenes are not well-made. The usual doll appearance and scarecrow didn’t provide any horror experience to the audience. With the predictable jump scares, the performances and a few scenes didn’t get highlighted. The BGM is okay and the cinematographer tried his best.

What’s There?

  • The leads’ performances are okay

What’s Not There?

  • Predictable horror sequences
  • The writing is not gripping

Verdict

For a few horror scenes and the performances, we can watch this film, once!
