The plot explores the lives of Shrivastav. Shanti Devi, who is the matriarch of the family, handles all the family affairs according to her whims and enjoys complete superiority over other family members. She believes that by controlling the money she can extort the care and respect of the whole family and can have it her way. Shanti Devi’s daughter, Sarla’s dysfunctional family, is also a part of the main plot.

The bitter-sweet character of Sarla is played by Ananya Aggarwal. She has a juicy, negative charm and is much dear to Shanti Devi; however, she doesn’t shy away from taking advantage of the love which is showered on her by her mother. The fate of the two families is interwoven, and they often come face to face sometimes in dispute and sometimes in harmony. Its shadiness and irony set the show apart. Shanti Devi has concentrated her malice towards Riya and ceaselessly conspires to break Riya’s relationship with Kaushalya and Shivam.

She is often significantly successful and manages to sour the happiness in their lives, but they always find their way back with understanding and love. In response, Riya adopts a desi look to handle the vicious attacks from Shanti Devi. Mere Angne Mein depicts an austere generation gap between the eldest and the youngest members of the family and a clash of polar ideologies. The plot seems to revolve around Riya and Shivam’s story as they go through thick and thin and often an entry of a third person causes tumults in that relationship. The sensitive yet robust character of Riya is played by Ekta Kaul, who hails from Jammu and has previously appeared in serials like ‘Rabb Se Sona Ishq’ and ‘Bade Achhe Lagte Hain.’
