Chithi is a Tamil serial that was aired on Sun TV. It changed the way the serials were to be taken and revolutionized the small screen industry. It was in fact a prime time serial which was produced by Raadan Productions owned by Raadhika. The key artists of this serial were Raadhika Sarathkumar, Anju, Sivakumar, Yuvarani, Latha,
Subhalekha Sudhakar, Neena, Ravi Kumar, Baby Hemalatha and
Ajay Rathnam. The serial was directed by C. J . Baskar. Sharadha (Radhika) was saved by Ramu (Sivakumar) from the river and they lived with Ramu’s daughter Kaveri.
Ramu was a textile merchant who was once married to a lunatic woman. She once had gone to take a bath in the river Kaveri and drowned there. Ramu and his friend Krishna thought she was dead died and then they discover Sharadha. Sharadha hides her past of being a collector in her home -town along with the truth behind her attempt of jumping into the Kaveri River. The rivals of Sharadha were Velumani and Prabhavadhi (Krishna’s wife). Sharadha ran her own textile mill and faced many problems along with love affairs of Kaveri and Shwetha (her daughter). To everyone, Prasad is Prabhavadhi’s son , but in reality, he was Sharadha’s son.
The reason was that Prabhavadhi had given birth to a son who is handicapped. In thinking that Prabhavadhi would never accept this child, Krishna and Ramu decided to exchange their sons as both women were admitted in the same hospital for delivery. Prabhavadhi trains Prasad against Sharadha’s family. However, Brinda, the daughter of Prabhavadhi is good in nature and helps Sharadha’s family. The story finally ends with Sharadha winning her battle and was a great hit. This serial of the Sun TV channel had received the highest number of TRP ratings along with maximum number of viewers of all types. Many actors had made their debut in this serial and it had also given a break to Nithyashree Mahadevan (singer) and Dhina (music director).
