Vasantham again surprises the TV serial viewers with a powerful anti-patriarchal narrative by forcefully bringing forth a story of three women Lavanya, Anjali, and Radha. Set in the migrant Tamil community of Singapore the serial has volumes to talk about, bringing out the subtle ways in which gender discrimination is played out in the everyday life of every woman, be it successful corporate women like Lavanya, bubbly housewives like Radha, or a struggling girl like Anjali.

When we are first introduced, to Lavanya she comes off as an assertive and independent woman who raises her voice against discrimination. The sad thing in her case is that she had to face the injustice at her own home, from her mother.  Every day is like a war zone as she has to constantly battle an unappreciative mother when she unjustly scolds her or causes inconveniences while showering her son with all the attention and praise in the world. Despite being so successful in her career, her mother seldom values her achievements. All the while, she showers her son with love and adoration. Unsurprisingly this leaves a toll on her and affects her productivity at work. The mental frustration about her mother’s atrocious attitude towards her often creates tangible hardships like when she had to do with her friend’s laptop for an important presentation as her mother gave her laptop to her brother. Regardless of these detriments,  Lavanya marches forth in her corporate strides by being singularly focused on her career.

Anjali the next person of interest, is indeed a very exciting persona. She is mature beyond her age having to look after her 4-member family single handedly has forced on her responsibilities par her age. Struggling to find any decent job, Anjali turns to fraud and perfects the act of conning with her accomplice, the witty, Michael. The Duo does everything from artificially driving up apartment prices by posing as fake buyers to downright blackmailing using honey traps. And all in these ventures Michael follows her dutifully, but he is in turn fleeced by Anjali’s mother a habitual drinker, who is trying to drink herself into oblivion from the pain of her husband leaving her. The alcoholism of the mother contributes to the chaos of Anjali’s home, and she is forced to play the role of a strict matron at such a young age.
