Nandi was an Indian actress, a beautiful singer, and a renowned personality in the Bengali film industry. She was born on December 5, 1935 in the British part of India. She was known as "Suchitra of Mancha."

She completed her primary education at United Missionary Girls High School in Kolkata. After that, she persuaded her L.A from Ashutosh College. She was a passionate, enthusiastic, and hard-working person, and she had been interested in classical dancing and singing since her childhood.

She also learned from Kutty. She played as a playback singer on her music records. Her father, BL Nandi, was a respected and reputed doctor in Dhaka. Sachin Dev Barman, her father's friend, advised her to learn Basbi songs. She walked into the cinema in 1950.

She debuted in the Bengali classic cult film Jaymalaye Jibanta Manush in 1958, directed by the famous director Prafulla Chakraborty. She worked on many hit plays during the early days of her career, including Same-Side and Srimati Bhyanakari. She was one of the good actresses of the 60s.

She performed in many films like "Baghini," "Raater Kuheli," "Arrival of the Dead," "Sei Chokh," "Ami Se O Sakha," and "Gajmukta." She worked in the Hindi film "Do Dilo Ki Dastan" in 1988. Nandi worked with many famous stars, including Vaijantimala, Rehman, and Nasir Hossain.

She earned the Best Actress Award in a supporting role from the Bengali Film Journalists Association for her performance in the movie Bon Palahshir Padabali in 1974.

She left her successful career to accompany and take care of her only child, Debanjali. She left the cinema world after becoming a mother. She passed away at 82 after suffering from a massive cardiac arrest. She died on July 22, 2018 after living a successful life.
