Born on December 20, 1919, in Karimganj, Assam, a British Indian state at the time, Khaled Choudhury is the son of Chandranath Dutta Choudhury, and Hem Nalini. Chirakumar was named after his grandmother's brother, Gurusaday Dutt, but his father later changed it to Chiraranjan Dutta Choudhury. Due to Personal reasons, he changed his name to Khaled Choudhury in 1943. In 1945, he relocated to Kolkata. Khaled Choudhury was a Bengali theatre personality and artist. He was a single man. On January 26, 2012, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan for contributing to theatre in India's Republic Day Honours List. In 1945, he joined the Indian People's Theatre Association, also known as the Bharatiya Gananatya Sangha, in Kolkata.

He worked with Bohurupee Productions on the plays Dharmaghat (1953), Rakta Karabi (1954), Swargiya Prahasan (1955), Angshidaar (1955), Daakghar (1957), Putul Khela (1958), Barbar Baanshi (1969), Kingbadanti (1970), Pagla Ghora (1971) , Gandaar (1972), and Jajaati (1988), directed by Shobhu Mita, Tripti Mitra He worked with Calcutta Theatre Productions on Gotraantar (1959) and Debigarjan (1966), both directed by Bijon Bhattacharya. He also collaborated with Mukhosh Theatre Centre Productions on Tarun Ray's plays Rajanigandhaa and Aar Hobey Na Deri. When the Folk Music and Folklore Research Institute was established in 1965, he became its secretary. A large amount of folk music from eastern India was collected and donated to the Lokasanskriti o Adivasisanskriti Kendra (Government of West Bengal's Centre for Folk and Adivasi Culture). He wrote many books about theatre, mainly in Bengali.
