Slim Pickens, whose actual name was Louis Burton Lindley Jr, was a rodeo, television and film actor. He was born in Kingsburg, California, United States of America, on June 29, 1919. His parents' names were Louis Bert Lindley Sr and Sally Mosher. Louis was a dairy farmer. From a young age, Slim was able to ride a horse. However, he wasn't interested in his family business and would make few quick bucks by roping steers and riding broncos. At first, his father opposed him, but Slim gave no heed. Lindley participated in a competition and changed his name to Slim so that Louis wouldn't get to know about it. Slim managed to win a cash prize of four hundred dollars. He is an alumnus of Hanford High School, Hanford, California, and was the Future Farmers of America's Association member. Soon, he became famous in his locality as a rodeo clown.
After working for nearly twenty years as a rodeo clown, Slim got his first break on the big screen with the Errol Flynn He was born in 1909 in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia >> Read More... in the movie’ Rocky Mountain’. His ability to ride horses without any external help made his producers and directors to cast him. After Rocky Mountain, Slim has enacted several characters in diverse TV shows and films like ‘The Story of Will Rogers’, ‘Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color’, ‘Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid’, ‘The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams’, and many others. Slim is the narrator of Seekers of the Fleece, a part of A Ballad of the West and also gave a voice for the character of B.O.B. in The Black Hole. He was the host of The Nashville Palace, a music series. In 1982, National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, inducted his name into the Western Performers Hall of Fame.
Two years later, Rodeo Historical Society included his name in the Rodeo Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. In 2005 and 2006, Slim appeared on the Rodeo Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, Colorado Springs. He married Margaret (née Harmon) Lindley and had three children whose names were Margaret Louise Wittman, Darryle Ann Giardino née Wofford, and Thomas Michael Lindley. Darryl is Margaret's child from her previous marriage. On December 8, 1983, Slim died after doctors performed a brain tumor surgery on him. Slim also had a brother named Easy Pickens, whose actual name was Samuel. He was also an actor.
