as he was an avid film lover and wanted to pursue acting. In New York, Steve was mentored by the great Lee Strasberg, who taught him acting. In New York, Steve first made it big as a theatre artist. He became a regular in Broadway which is considered as the biggest platform, as a theatre artist can aspire to act in. He went on to win numerous awards.
His debut came in The Visitors in 1972. He played the role of Sgt. Mike Nickerson. 4 years later, Steve starred as the notorious serial Charles Manson in Helter Skelter, a biographical TV series about the life of Charles Manson. Over his career, Steve starred in numerous horror slasher films about serial killers. Among one of them was Ed Gein, based on the life of another notorious serial killer of the same name.
