Born as Gretchen Young in Salt Lake City, Utah, she moved to Hollywood, California with her mother and two siblings after the parents had separated. The three siblings including sisters, Polly Ann and Elizabeth Jane worked as child actresses. Young’s very first role was when she was three years old in a silent film, The Primrose Ring. Young commenced her high school but decided to go back to Hollywood, and she was signed by John McCormick as he and his wife Colleen Moore saw potential. Colleen then chose ‘Loretta’ to be her new name. She moved forward in her successful acting career, and there was no doubt that she would become one of the leading ladies of Hollywood by the 1930’s to 1940’s. Her transition and maturity in acting allowed her to be part of around 100 films. She has even won an Academy Award for Best Actress for one of her successful movies, The Farmer’s Daughter.

Her acting skills were unbeatable and allowed her to be one of the first female stars who earned a six-figure salary. By 1953, Young had retired from the film industry and but that did not stop her from acting. She decided to sign a contract with P&G as well as NBC (National Broadcasting Corporation) so she could produce her TV series. Thus, The Loretta Young Show ran from 1953 to 1961 with a total of eight seasons. Loretta Young finally finished her big time productions by the year 1963. She engaged herself by volunteering in the different charities. Her appearances in public events had decreased as it depended on her support for the charities. She had an unfortunate death as she had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and died on the 12th of August in 2000.
