Cooper Moore is a famous music composer and pianist of American origin. He was born on 31st August 1946 in Loudoun County, Virginia. He is also an instrument designer and builder, working in New York City. Since his childhood, he was interested in playing the piano. His passion was such that he started learning piano at a very small age. When children of his age were busy in playing games, he was pursuing his passion. He was appointed as the piano player by his community leaders, and at the age of only eight years, he started performing at functions of Society and also in ceremonial services of Church. In 1967, he attended Berkeley College of Music in Boston. Here, he gained knowledge about the various aspects of Music. In college, he met several young aspiring musicians and composers like Cleve Pozar, David ware, Juma Santos. Later, he formed a collaboration with them. He also established a trio called, Apogee in 1970 with drummer Marc Edwards and Saxophonist David Ware. Later in 1973, they all settled in New York City and set up their performance area at 501 Canal Street. He and his collaborators performed here for several years. He got his first big opportunity in a commercial In Valley of Search, which was released by India Navigation. He also started to build and design musical instruments. He possesses so much talent that from a discarded wood he built, and designed Xylophone with an 11 note.
After this, he continued working with several other bands in Virginia. In 1985, he returned to New York City. He got the opportunity to perform with William Parker in In Order To Survive. He also worked with Bill Cole in Untempered Ensemble. He established a trio with Tom Abbs and Chad Taylor. They recorded several hits with Digital Primitives. He also performed with John Blum in a piano playing at Whitney Museum Of American Art. He is presently focusing on his Solo piano performance. He is also performing in a trio with Pascal Niggenkempen and Brian Price. As a music composer, he has composed for plays like The Darker Side Of Earth, Feather At The Flame. He has also worked as music director in few movies such as Fireflies in the Abyss and Central Park. For his contribution in the field of Music, he has been awarded Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017 at Vision Festival.
