Jean Stapleton

She is an American stage actress, best known for her character named ‘Edith Bunker’ in the 1970’s situational comedy ‘All in the Family’. She received the “Prime Time Emmy Award’ thrice for doing the lead role in the comedy series and also two Golden Globes for the same. She was the daughter of Marie Stapleton, who was an opera singer and Joseph Murray, who was a salesman. She began her career in the year 1941 at the age of 18 in the play ‘American Gothic’. She was married to William Putch in the year 1956. They were blessed with two children namely John Putch, who is an actor - writer and a director and Pamela Putch, who is a television producer.

For thirty long years, her husband had directed ‘Totem Pole Playhouse’ in Pennsylvania, and she used to perform regularly on those stages. Her brother named Jack Stapleton was also a stage actor. Betty Jane Watson, a popular actress, is her cousin. She was seen in several musical hits like ‘Bells Are Ringing,’ ‘Funny Girls,’ etc. In the year 1963, she guest appeared as ‘Rosa Criley’ in an episode of the series ‘The Eleventh Hour’. She had done several roles in the TV series named ‘Starlight Theatre’ that was telecasted on CBS Television, ‘Robert Montgomery Presents’ which was produced by NBC, ‘Women with a Past’ which is a soap opera, ‘My Three Sons’ which is an American Situational comedy and several others.
