Prunella Margaret Rumney Illingworth(22 June 1932) was born to an actress, Catherine Scales. She was born in Surrey, England, and completed her primary education there. She had a brother named Timothy. Scales began her career as an assistant stage manager at Bristol Old Vic in 1951. Though she has been cast predominantly for comic roles, she was well known for her work in Pride and Prejudice (1952), Laxdale Hall (1953), Hobson's Choice (1954), Room at the Top (1959), and Waltz of the Toreadors (1962).Eventually,she came to limelight with the early 1960s sitcom Marriage Lines starring alongside Richard Briers. She played her iconic role, Sybil Fawlty, in the sitcom Fawlty Towers Written by John Cleese and Connie Booth, the show >> Read More... (1975-1979).

Apart from these classics, Scales also appeared in several movies and TV shows, entertaining people over the past six decades. A few of those are: in 1973;she casted with Ronnie Barker in One Man’s Meat, Escape from the Dark (1976), The Hound of the Baskervilles (1978), The Boys from Brazil (1978), The Wicked Lady (1983), The Lonely Passion of the Judith Hearne (1987), Consuming Passions (1988), A Chorus of Disapproval (1989), Howards End (1992), Wolf (1994), and Stiff Upper Lips (1997). For the Shakespeare production of The Merry Wives of Windsor (1982), she portrayed as Mistress Page.

She was appreciated by critics. Scales was married to Timothy West, another actor, in 1963, and the couple were blessed, with two beautiful children, namely Samuel West Samuel West is an English Actor, Director, and Voi >> Read More... and Joseph West. Prunella also has a stepdaughter, Juliet from West’s first marriage. Her biography, named Prunella, was written by a famous author Teresa Ransom, and was published by UK publishing imprint in the year 2005, which was a grand success. In the year 2013, she revealed that she had begun to suffer from short-term memory loss and was unable to remember the years in which her sons were born or the year she married her husband. In March 2014, West announced that his wife was having some trouble with mild Alzheimer’s disease; however, by August 2015, her condition had worsened. Currently she is healthy and is doing well both physically and psychologically.
