Chhotu Mama is a universal Mama as everyone in Lapataganj calls him mama as he is the younger brother of Mishri Mausi and Mama to Surili, the female protagonist. He is a carefree and simpleton type of person who be his talks and and actions evokes comical situations. He has married thrice but all his wives have deserted him due to his foolishness. Tillu (portrayed by Dhruv Bhavsar) is a replica of his father and repeats the same idiosyncrasies as that of his father. This created further comical situations in the serial which made it very popular among the viewers. Dhruv's performance as Tillu was much appreciated coming from so young an artist with smooth effortlessness.
