Jaya Sharma, full name Jaya Puranprakash Sharma, was born on 17 September 1980 in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. She is a former Indian Cricketer, a left-handed batswoman and a right-arm medium-style bowler. Jaya Sharma is also a Sports Management Consultant, Mind Conditioning Mentor, TedX Speaker, and Sports Entrepreneur. She has a Bachelor's degree from Delhi University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Management (2018-20) from the Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak. She was the Head of the Resource Team of her batch there.
She has played for the Indian Women's Cricket Team from April 2002 to October 2009. She has also played for the Asia Women XI, North Zone Women, and Railways (India) Women. In her career, she played one Test Match, 77 One Day Internationals and one 20-20 International for India (2002-08), which included the 2005 World Cup. She was the first female cricketer to receive the BCCI Player of the Year Award in 2007. She also achieved the third-highest score for India at the 2005-06 Women's Asia Cup held in Pakistan. She scored One Day International centuries at the National Stadium in Karachi, Pakistan (2005) and M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, India (2007). She retired from the game in 2015. She then became a professional coach and mentor for the Rajasthan Women's Cricket Team to develop their action plan for the next season.
She has been a self-employed Sports Management Professional and a Brand Ambassador at Sculpting Mentors in New Delhi from August 2018 to January 2021. She continued as the Sports Ambassador at Sculpting Mentors, New Delhi, since July 2017. She has been the Brand Ambassador at Woman With Wings, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, since January 2021. She worked as a Selector at Ferozshah Kotla, New Delhi, for the Delhi & District Cricket Association, India, from October 2017 to January 2021. She has also been a part of the Chairperson Selection Committee, NewDelhi, for the cricket association since February 2021.Â
She has been the vice president at Crikick, New Delhi, a Sportainment company, since March 2021. She has also been a member of the Board of the Program Advisory Committee and Sports Management at the School Of Business, Mody University (SoBMU) in Rajasthan, since April 2021. It's a Sports Management BBA program. She is a certified CPD (Continuous Professional Development), Level II Coach by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued in October 2020.
