Ani Thomas

Ani Thomas is an Indian writer and director. He is also an academic associate in the Department of Creative Sciences – Media at Mahindra Ecole Centrale College of Engineering. He completed a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Visual Communication (1996 – 1999) at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. Then, he did a Masters in Communication Studies (Video Production Specialization) at the Department of Communication, University of Pune (1999 – 2001).

After that, he took a diploma course in Film Direction at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune (2002 – 2006). Later, Ani Thomas did FIAF's (International Federation of Film Archives) training course on Film Preservation and Restoration in 2015. Before joining MU, Ani Thomas worked as an Associate Professor (Department in Charge) in Film Direction at L. V. Prasad Film & TV Academy, Thiruvananthapuram (August 2014 – August 2018). He was associated with the Children's Film Academy (Supported by BFI & Cinematheque Francaise) as a Mentor and Academic coordinator from 2008 to 2018.

Ani Thomas worked as a creative consultant and an Ad film director with Nomad Films in Mumbai from June 2006 to April 2008. Since then, he has been working as a freelance screenwriter, consultant, and director. He has worked as a director for the 52-minute documentary film "Memories and Forgetfulness," funded by Public Service Broadcast Trust. Therefore, he worked as a freelance director for eleven months from June 2011 to April 2012. Ani Thomas has worked as a creative consultant and founding partner for AuralMayhem (January 2010 – December 2013). AuralMayhem is a sound post-production setup for sound editing and design.

Also, he was a creative head of feature films at Katson Motion Pictures Pvt Ltd, Mumbai from October 2010 to December 2013. In 2012, he worked as creative director & co-writer for the Hindi feature film "Chor Chor Super Chor,” produced by Katson Motion Pictures Pvt Ltd. Also, he was the editor for the 72-minute documentary film, "Shahabad Express," directed by Rajesh K in the same year. In 2017, Ani Thomas worked as concept, director, and editor for the short "I Am That I Am," funded by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

The same year, he worked as a director & editor in the documentary "Siddham.. Siddhan..” under a fellowship from Public Service Broadcast Trust. Ani Thomas worked in several short films such as “And, So Came A Day” (premiered at the International Film Festival of Kerala, 2006), “Where from the Words Turn Back” (2005), “Once Upon A Time,” “ Silence Click to look into! >> Read More... ,” and “Traffic, Crossings, Traffic.”
