Falguni Shah was born in Mumbai and she is a singer and songwriter. Her stage name is Falu. She developed a taste in classical songs by listening to her mother humming to ragas. Falguni began her journey in the field of singing and trained herself in the Jaipur Gharana and the Benaras style of Thumri, and sharpened herself by practicing rigorously from an early age. She joined the Boston-based Indo-American band 'Karyshma' as a lead vocalist. She has also collaborated with high-profile international musicians.

 In 2005, she served as one of Carnegie Hall’s Musical Ambassadors. She collaborated with Wyclef Jean in 2007 and lend her vocal style in Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut A Place in Time. She released her self-titled debut CD. Her original song Rabba became the first Hindi song to be trending because of her band featured on FOX channel’s Fearless Music in January 2008. She created a place in the Wall Street Journal as representative of a new class of musical hybrids for her Indie-Hindi musical style.

She has also performed for President of the United States Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama alongside A.R. Rahman in November 2009 at first State Dinner. Falu contributed to Global Noize’s sophomore album Prayer for the Planet. She was in the list of the 20 most influential global Indian women by the Economic Times of India in 2015. In Mumbai, she won the Women Icons of India award in 2018. She has a son, Nishaad. Her second album ‘Foras Road’ released in 2013 is a collection of original and traditional songs.
