Shahir Vitthal Umap was a legendary Indian Folk singer born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He took his last breath while performing at an event in Deekshabhoomi, Nagpur, in 2010 at the age of 80. His outlook was progressive and revolutionary in terms of his propagation of social equality.

Honored with first prize at the “International Folk Music” and “Art Festival” at Cork, Ireland, Vitthal had bagged many prestigious awards in his name. “Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar,” “MATA Puraskar for Best Actor for JamBhul Akhyan,” and “Maharashtra Shasan Sanskrutik Puraskar” can be added to the list.
