Zahir Bandukwala

Zahir Bandukwala works in the Indian Film industry, predominantly in Bollywood. He is a Sound Designer, Sound Mixer, Sound Editor, and Sync Sound Recordist for many Bollywood Feature Films, documentaries, and web series from 2005 to the present day.

He studied in Indian School, Muscat (1987 to 1997), joined for a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Mithibai College of Arts Chauhan Institute of Science and A.J. College of Commerce and Economics, where he dropped out as a sophomore. Furthermore, he has a diploma in Sound Recording from the University of Mumbai in 2006 – 2007. He also has a Multirotor Drone Pilot Course certification from the International Institute of Drones (2018).

He was a dubbing engineer as a freelancer from January 2002 to 2005 for various Films and Radio Spots and an Acoustic Engineer in 2005 for seven months, where he designed and set up a music recording studio with a Live room for Voice and Acoustic Instruments. For six years, he worked as a Supervising Sound Editor in the 2013 Documentary ‘Fire in the Blood’ – a 2010 short film ‘The Joy of Giving’ and for various films like Shaitan (2011), Happi (2010), Gulal (2009), Aamir (2008), Dharm (2007) and others. From 2017 to 2019, he was a Certified UAV Pilot (Drone man) in areas of Mumbai. Zahir has now been self-employed at ‘Plus1db’ – (a sound production team run by him) for 13 years as a Dialogue Editor and Sound Designer and now as a Production Sound Mixer.

Zahir Bandukwala has more than 15 years of work experience on Location sound projects and Post-production in studio feature films and OTT platforms such as Amazon web series, Netflix, and Cine plays. He has a musical background and a deep understanding of sound-related cognitive processes. He has also worked as a Sync Sound Recordist parallel to Sound Designing.
