Subhash Tyagi is a veteran Indian actor and one of the most prominent theatre artists in the country. Born in Meerut city of Uttar Pradesh, he completed his higher secondary school in 1964. Subhash Tyagi attained a diploma in Electrical studies in 1966. However, he aspired to become an actor. Subhas was a civil servant while in Jana Natya Manch, an Indian Theatre group. Spanning his acting career, he has featured in multilingual plays and over 3000 theatres, street play shows, telefilms, and television serials. Subhash Tyagi started working in 1969 with the Indian People's Theatre Association, New Delhi, where he performed street and theatre plays directed by Shyamal Mukherjee and Safdar Hashmi. Subhash, with other eminent theatre artists like Safdar Hashmi, Rakesh Saxena, Uday, and Kajal Ghosh, formed a Delhi-based theatre group called Jana Natya Manch or JANAM in September 1973.

Mrityer Atit (Bengali), a Shyamal Mukherjee directorial, was the first full-length play performed by JANAM in 1973. In the same period, he was also part of two street plays, Janta Pagal Hai and Madari. Subhash Tyagi joined the Delhi-based Abhiyan Theatre Group in 1976. JANAM was revived in 1977, after which Subhash Tyagi and others performed extensive street plays across North India. Some notable plays were Samarth Ko Dosh Nahi Gosain, Aurat, Machine, Hatyarey, Raja Ka Baja, Gaon Se Shahar Tak, and Halla Bole. He was the treasurer of the group for the earlier part of the 1980s. Subhash Tyagi was associated with JANAM till 1990.
