Qamar Jalalabadi was born on March 9, 1917, also known as Om Prakash Bhandari. Jalalabadi spent much of the day immersed in his writing and practiced transcendental meditation intensely in his personal life. He moved his family to a quieter home in Juhu. Seven children were born to him and his wife Leelawati. Jalalabadi cherished his "pankhe," a term he used to refer to his numerous friends and thousands of admirers. Hindi, English, Urdu, and many more regional languages were among the languages used in his fan messages. He thoughtfully delivered an autographed photo along with his thoughtful replies to all of his fan messages.

Qamar Jalalabadi arrived in Pune in the early 1940s, drawn by the prospect of a career in the film industry. He wrote the lyrics for his first movie, Zamindar, a Pancholi Pictures production, in 1942. Jalalabadi then moved to Bombay and spent almost 40 years working as a lyricist there. Jalalabadi’s career as a songwriter reached previously unheard-of heights thanks to the 1958 film Howrah Bridge. He worked for numerous film studios throughout his lengthy career, including Prabhat Film Company, Pancholi Pictures, Filmistan Ltd., Famous Pictures, Minerva Movietone, Prakash Pictures, Wadia Films Ltd., Filmkar Ltd., Sippy Films, N.C. Sippy Films, and many others.

Jalalabadi was a founding member of illustrious institutions in Mumbai like the Film Writers Association and IPRS. He collaborated with the following musical artists: Ghulam Haider, G. Damle, Pandit Amarnath, and several others. A total of 700 songs were written by Qamar Jalalabadi during his lengthy career, with song lyrics being used in about 156 films. Jalalabadi was a well-known poet (shayar) who performed poetry readings at many mushairas around India. On January 9th, 2003, Qamar Sahib, who was 86 years old, passed away from diabetes and old age.
