Reoti Saran Sharma was a Hindi and Urdu language playwright and eminent theater activist born on 1 October 1924 in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh. He was married to Sarla Devi and had two sons. Sharma passed away at the age of 92 years on 23 September 2016 in New Delhi. He had served as Vice President, Executive Committee member, and Technical Adviser at UNESCO's International Theatre Institute in Paris. He was also a translation specialist and retired Principal Hindi Officer in the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. 

He wrote over 150 radio plays that were broadcast on national television. Nine of which had been translated into regional Indian languages as well. He used popular muhavare or proverbs in almost all of his plays as a part of storytelling. Famous plays written by him include Na Dharam Na Iman, Deepshika, and Andhere Ka Beta. He wrote the scripts of television shows such as Phir Wahi Talaash, Aur Bhi Gham Hain Zamane Mein, Lena dena, Adhikaar, and Great Maratha. He was honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2007 for his Hindi playwriting and contribution to Hindi drama literature and performance. He also won the Ghalib Award and Sahitya Kala Parishad award in 1978.
