Veteran actress Gayathri Prabhakar is a renowned movie personality and dubbing artist in the Kannada industry. She has a vast experience in movie and radio field. She is the voice behind many celebrities whom we see in the cinema. Gayathri is married to M.V Prabhakar. Her daughter Anu Prabhakar born in 1980 is a famous Kannada actress. Anu is known for her acting in the movie ‘Shaap’ in 2000. She has been a part of few television shows also. Gayathri has a son named Vikram. Her sister ‘ Shashikala’ is also a popular dubbing artist in Kollywood.

Gayathri came into the industry in the late 1970s. She was initially a dubbing artist. She worked as a radio personality. Her voice has that influential factor which fetched her dubbing roles in many films. Her first film as a dubbing artist was ‘Praya Praya Praya’ in 1982. It was a youth based romantic movie starring ‘ Ramakrishna’. In the same year, she worked for ‘Hasyaratna Ramakrishna’. It was a comedy film based on the poet Tenali Ramakrishna. In 1984 she again dubbed for ‘Aasha Kirana’ meaning silver lining.

The saga continued and she worked for films such as ‘Parameshi Prem Prasang’, ‘Kumkuma Thanda Saubhagya’, ‘Kedi No.1’, ‘ Vijay’, ‘Ravana Rajya’, ‘Daivya Shakthi’, ‘Bhadrakali’, ‘Agni Kanye’, ‘Gudugu Sidilu’ and ‘ Yuga Purusha’. In the year 1988, she did her first feature film as an actress. It was ‘Sangliyana’. The film was a super hit. In the following years, she did many character roles and cameo in the movies. Those movies were ‘Mithileya Seetheyaru’ and ‘ Krishna Rukmini.’

In 1989 she did a cameo for ‘CBI Shankar’. She worked as a dubbing artist and actress for the film ‘Raja Kempu Roja’ in 1990. In the same year, she featured in a comedy film by H R Bhargava named ‘Chapala Chennigaraya.’ The following year she was the part of ‘Manglaya’ and ‘Golmaal Part 2’. The movie ‘Halli Mestru’ and Bhairavi’ were two of her notable contributions. The former is a comedy genre film. She has devoted a long career to this field. In the year 2000, she acted for ‘Love In Nepal’.

After this she mainly did dubbing. ‘Anjali Geethanjali’, ‘The City’, ‘Meshtru’, ‘ Vishnu’, ‘ Ajay’, ‘Ee Sanje’, ‘Nannedeya Hadu’ and ‘Arakshaka’ were some of her later vocals. Gayathri has over 1500 films to her credit. She was spotted at the Bengaluru Tree festival - Neeralu in 2014. Here she talked about the garden she maintains and the inherent significance of trees.
