Gayathri Vijayalakshmi is a celebrated Bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer in the Malayalam industry. She was the Head of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department in TKM College of Engineering, Kollam. She started learning Bharatanatyam at the age of 14. From Nangiarkulangara near Haripad, she would travel up to Kollam to learn Bharatanatyam from the veteran master PG Janardhanan. She continued the classes even after she joined TKM for engineering. After her marriage, she moved to Thiruvananthapuram and took classes from V Mydhili of Midhilalaya dance academy. Gayathri has also acted in the Malayalam play telecasted in Doordarshan. She started to dance after such a long gap that she wasn't sure if she would be able to dance again. Thus, at 52, she initiated to dance again, after a time of 26 years. In this way, Gayathri inspires many like her to pursue their dreams no matter their age.Â
