Thakazhi Sivasankar Pillai is an Indian novelist, story writer. He loved to write in the Malayalam Language. He was born in Thakazhi, in Kuttanad, Alappuzha district of Kerala state. Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, writers of Malayalam literature. He is popularly known as Thakazhi (his given name) according to his place of birth. Sivasankara was born on 17 April 1912 in a village in rural Thakazhi of Kuttanand in the Alappuzha district of Kerala. Sivasankara started writing Three Hidden Jewels at a young age with the help of his high school principal, Kainikkara Kumara Pillai.

Later, young Sivasankara was introduced to modern European literature by Kesari A. Balakrishna Pillai, a famous Malayalam writer. His novel Thottiyude Makan (1947) is considered the leading work of Malayalam literature, known for its beautiful portrayal of three working families in Alappuzha. Another political novel he wrote, Randidangazhi (1948), was adapted into a film written by none other than Thakazhi. The film won the National Film Award for Best Picture in 1958.

He also won the Sahitya Akademi Award for the film Chemmeen (1958). The novel was adapted into a movie and later won the title of the best movie ever made on the Malayalam silver screen, leading the box office compared to the new movie.
