Sripriya is a south Indian cine actress who also acted in some serials. She has acted in all south Indian languages, though her major contribution is to Tamil film industry where she has acted in over 200 films. She has ventured into direction now and is busy with Tamil and Telugu projects.

Sripriya was born in a family of professional musicians. Many of her relatives are lead classical musicians in the state. She debuted in the movie ‘Murugan Kaattiya Vazhi’ in the year 1973. She was praised for her fearless performance before camera for the first time. Sivakumar was one of those who predicted that she would be a great star later, and indeed his prediction didn’t go wrong.

Sripriya leads a very good personal life. She has donated the funds raised through her paintings to child welfares. She has said that all her life revolves around cinema and that a women’s success is because of her family, since she experienced it personally with her mom and sister being her backbone before getting married.

Sripriya was awarded the Kalaimamani in the 1980s and has been the jury for National awards and State awards committee.

Charulatha Sripriya popularly known as Sripriya is a prominent South Indian film artist. She is a legendary actor in South Indian film industry - Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam films. She has played many foremost roles in the 1980s. As a total, she acted in more than 200 films. She married the famous South Indian actor Rajkumar Sethupathy.

Sripriya was born and brought up in Chennai. She attended the Church Park convent school inChennai. She was a trained classical dancer even from her school days. She made her first performance before the camera on November 19th, 1973 through the film “Murugan Kaattiya Vazhi”. It was directed by P Madhavan. She acted as a strong believer of Lord Muragan. It was followed by “Aval Oru Thodar Kathai”, a Tamil film directed by K Balachander. In it she played the role of a middle class woman, who sacrifices her desires to support the family and the siblings.

She was awarded the Kalaimamani award in 1980 as a tribute and recognition of her lifetime contributions to Tamil film industry. She also contributed as a jury member for the National film Awards committee and as a member for the Tamil Nadu State film awards board. She has the exemplary credit of acting as a heroine with Rajinikanth in 28 movies and as a heroine with Kamal Haasan in around 30 movies.

During the later part of her career, she turned her attention towards movie direction. She is also a very good painter and the funds generated through her drawing are spent on societal causes like for children’s education and poverty alleviation.
