Ceylon Manohar

Manoharan, also referred to as Surangani Manohar was a pop singer. He is a Sri Lankan Tamil, who has acted in Tamil films. He is notable for the song "Surangani", which was popular in the 1970s and 1980s in Tamil Nadu. Starting his career in dramas and locally created films in Jaffna in the early 60s, Manoharan began his singing career in 1970. He was the hero in the Tamil movie made in Jaffna, known as ‘Pasa Nila’. Since then, he has played in over 250 films in Tamil, Sinhalese, and a few different languages. During his tenure as a producer for dramas Ceylon Broadcasting Corporation in 1972, Manoharan began specializing in pop and released several songs in Tamil, Sinhalese, and English. During this time his ‘Surangani’ hit the charts and won him the title ‘Pop Chakravarthi’ at a music pageant in Jaffna.

Manoharan’s film as a hero, ‘Vaadai Kaatru’, was released in 1977; It had won the President’s Award in Ceylon. He died in Chennai in 2018 due to age-related ailments.
